Shape up designers

I am not pleased with the general trend towards designers being total stuck up jerks. just because you have had success in the world of fashion does not mean that you have the right to treat yourself like god almighty. Honestly I love fashion, and the reason that I liked the couple of modelling jobs that i did was because the clients were extremely easy to work with and fun. If i were ever going to work for Karl Lagerfeld, I would be terrified. Not only is this man obsessed with himself he has the nerve to bash normal sized women, referring to mothers around the world calling them "fat mummies," which is kind of ridiculous.
From years of watching America's next top model, i have learned which designers might be good to work with, and which would be a nightmare. Heatherette is the top of my list, along with Anna Sui and though i found DVF a little rough she seemed genuinely interested in presenting her line a certain way, not just being rude for no reason. My number one least favourite, Ashley Paige who was featured on the show "A Model Life," and was so unbelievably rude and malicious I would never purchase anything from her or recommend her swimsuits to anyone. Interestingly when on Top Model the girls who did go-sees in other countries tended to not have such trouble with the designers as those who had go-sees in America.
All I'm saying is that we should follow what Zac Posen said when featured on the show, "love humanity," so guys I really dont care how nice or expensive your clothes are, if you are a jerk I'm not going to respect you.

Pick Me Some Burberrys!

Burberry Porsum spring 2011 is great for people who actually might want to wear this line. The clothing is practical, incorporating structured jackets and pencil skirts. There are also great bright colours to brighten up the blooming spring season. It’s great because we get to avoid the cliché of spring flowers and instead, the colours are channeled to brighten up the look, but it isn’t terrible predictable. The first jacket out of the gate at the runway show, I absolutely loved! The quilted detail on the bottom of the jacket plus the exquisite darting to create a great feminine shape blew me away, this is a really well made piece with great construction that is completely wearable for normal women. Later on in the show the sexiness breaks out with light cocktail dresses, that are still structured the line covers both work and play.  With sexy leather jackets and more work appropriate jackets and trenches the Burberry line this spring covers all the bases of practicality and adds a bit of fun, with bright greens, blues and yellows emerging in the accessories featured in the line.
When the patterns are introduced to the end of the show, girls you’ll have to be careful wearing these. The rock and roll vibe given by the leather jackets and leopard prints should not be paired with a bunch of accessories or you might look like you have been recently released from the nuthouse. But, if you do this right you will look smoking hot in one of these numbers at the bar nights out with the girls. All in all I feel that Christopher Bailey has done a great job with the spring line and I hope that it is well received by more than just myself. As you can tell I say order me up some Burberry pie!

I hate fur vests!

Fur vests are unattractive people, and there is almost no way to clean them. So not only are they reminiscent of the yeti in the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer  special, they get gross. How you can wear fur is as a DETAIL! Only have fur on your collar, on the cuff of your cute winter gloves, or on the tops of your boots, NOT all over your chest. Please stop this trend it is heinous.

Shopping Guide!

Help! I haven’t got a clue.

Do you feel like you just don’t have any of the resources to just look good? It’s hard when fashion isn’t your forte, but you don’t have to be fashion crazy to put something together that you feel comfortable in and also look good in.

The Shopper who doesn’t like to shop

This title belongs to you if you think shopping is a boring task that one must do in order to remain living with clothing on your back. So if you don’t like shopping you tend to want to spend as little time as possible being out and doing it. Sometimes you can feel like you are sacrificing your presentation for the opportunity to avoid doing something you really don’t want to. You have a few options; number one online shop, you can sit on your couch watch TV and buy whatever you want and many sites have a sizing chart so that you don’t screw up and have to send back items. Another strategy is to time your shopping well; most people don’t like shopping because it is crowded and stressful. Go to the mall when you know it wont be busy and you can reduce the stress and be able to calm down and find some things you like. Option three, go to more specialized boutiques that you know you like. They won’t be packed and they will probably have more things you like if you personally pick out the ones you know you have an interest in.
Another reason that some people hate shopping is because they have no idea what they want. Get a girlfriend and make a list before you leave. This makes a target for your trip and makes the focus clear, so you can get in, get what you want, and get going. Or you can look for items online and check if they are in stock at the store closest to you, that way you find what you want in a comfortable environment, and then go get it quickly without a fuss.

The Shopper who is style confused

Whether you feel you are behind the times, or were born without a fashionable bone in your body, you CAN look good. The idea is to keep it simple, don’t try to be fashion forward if you know that isn’t your way. The best rule for the fashion confused is to stick to the basics. The first step is to figure out your body shape so you can dress it properly. This way clothing will fit you right because you can learn how to make it comfortable with your shape. For women, the most flattering shape to try to create with an outfit is an hourglass, making a waistline apparent, and using simple pieces creates this shape. For tops, keep them fitted, not loose or tight, and always try to elongate the body. You can do this by wearing something with a v-neck, which is flattering on most figures. On the bottom it is also about good lines. A good skirt for every body shape, is an a-line skirt, it basically is in the shape of an A and flows away from the body so that your waist will be defined and you can create that hourglass.
Along with shapes patterns and colours can complicate everything if you have no idea how to use them. Neutral colours are navy, brown, black, grey and white and they go with any other colour in the rainbow. The main neutral pattern is a pinstripe and it can go with any other pattern. Things that are neutral balance out an outfit so that it doesn’t get to weird looking. The ideal way to use this idea is to pair a neutral with a colour and this way your outfit will always be balanced. Another rule with pattern is match the general size of the pattern you plan to wear to the size of you. If you are petite, wear a petite pattern, if you are tall and robust you can pull off a larger pattern.
If you want to make some sort of statement about yourself, do it in your accessories. They are smaller and are used more generally for expression and go beyond function, which makes them good statement material. You don’t want to make a statement about the fact you like a good martini by printing it all over your butt, instead get a cute martini pendant necklace and save us the eyesore.

The Mom shopper

Don’t have time or excess mount of “me-money”? What do you do if you have no idea how to dress well so you don’t embarrass your kids at soccer practice? Being a mother is hard, and people expect you to look good while doing it, so here are some ideas on how to do it all.  Always know your shape and try to create that hourglass by defining a waist. The best way for a mother to look great with even a t-shirt and jeans is a jacket. They pull everything together, especially for mothers who also work. This is because the jacket cinches a waist and defines the upper body; it also makes people look instantly ten times more professional. The next staple is a pair of great fitting black pants. Trousers are comfortable and pulled together. A great choice for a mom is a pair that has a fabric that does not wrinkle as much and therefore wont need to be ironed to look okay. These fabrics include a cotton or wool blend fabric. Don’t have time to shop, go online to a store where you know your size and order clothing to be delivered.

Will you be my Valentino?

Valentino spring 2011

Flowing fabrics and classic necklines are very present in this collection. The details on these extravagant gowns leave me drooling. The romantic floral details, lace overlays, and delicate ruffles are bringing ladylike back. The fabrics of are extremely delicate and give a small amount of sex appeal however I find that the cap sleeves and square necklines on some of the pieces in the collection, paired as well with the flowing fabric and floral details seems to be a little too frou-frou for anyone who isn’t a size negative zero to pull off. With all the embellishments and details to boot someone who might be curvier might be drawing a little too much attention by covering their butt in ruffles. Also I could live without the stiff blue fabric featured in some of the skirt suits, it is the opposite of the airy fabric in the rest of the collection and doesn’t seem to flow.
I am loving the lace, the incorporation of this detail do not compromise the lines or structure of the pieces. The use of neutral colours in this collection, like black and white, are used to tone down the lace so that there are no wild colours to overload the pieces. The show stopping floor length gown in blush is my favourite, it is sheer enough to have some sex appeal however the neckline and romanticism make sure that this doesn’t become crass.
